Vietnam tech firms face worker shortage – Mobile World Live

A report from An Bình Securities JSC estimates Vietnam will face a severe shortage of IT staff by the end of the year as demand for qualified people climbs due to more tech companies shifting operations to the country.
The finance company expects the country to require some 700,000 new staff by end-2025, with only around 500,000 skilled workers exiting training programmes, Vietnam New Service reported.
Citing figures from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the news agency said about 74,000 IT businesses employ more than 1.2 million staff, adding that number is forecast to hit 3 million by 2030.

Workforce training is a key challenge despite relatively high salary levels for the IT sector, Vietnam New Service wrote.
The jump in worker demand is accelerated by rising US tariffs and trade uncertainties, which weigh on tech companies’ China operations.
Counterpoint Research senior analyst Ivan Lam told Mobile World Live Samsung is pushing a larger portion of smartphone production to Vietnam and India to optimise its global supply chain and tackle the latest global geopolitical disruptions.
He said the South Korean vendor in 2024 made nearly half of its smartphones for global markets in Vietnam, while more than a fifth were made in India primarily for local demand.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said in an earning call last week Vietnam will be the country of origin for most iPads, Macs, Apple Watches and AirPods sent to the US.
