Thousands of books are now on their way to students across central Iowa.
United Way of Central Iowa held a “Stuff the Bus” book drive Tuesday at Athene’s headquarters in West Des Moines, collecting thousands of books to support young Iowans’ early reading skills.
“We want to ensure that kids have appropriate age books in their home because we know reading breeds creativity, it breeds imagination and just really helps them be fulfilled adults,” organizers said.
Organizers estimate they collected about 25,000 books, which United Way of Central Iowa will start sorting through and distributing this week.
