Throughout her partnership with Adidas, Emily Oberg has brought an effortless chic to a handful of sports models from the brand. As part of her next Sporty & Rich collaboration, the entrepreneur has reimagined the Adizero Adios 1 marathon racer from 2008 through a lifestyle lens.
For the uninformed, the running shoe is important to the Three Stripes' history because it helped Haile Gebrselassie set a new world record at the Berlin Marathon in the late 2000s. The Ethiopian's achievement showcased Adidas' commitment to sports innovation, and laid the groundwork for the current Adizero Running franchise that includes the Adios Pro 4, amongst other high-performing designs.
Last fall, Wales Bonner took Gebrselassie's iconic footwear of choice out of the archives, presenting it as a collaborative style named the Adidas Neftenga. Bad Bunny also utilized the Adios 1's original tooling as part of his SL 72 trio. Sporty & Rich's take, however, follows in Wales Bonner's footsteps as it faithfully recreates the 17-year-old design.
The impending Adios 1 duo features "Footwear White" and "Silver Metallic" tones throughout its technical construction. "Core Navy" and "Court Green" hues animate the retro racer via profile 3-Stripes, inner-lining, and other details across the design. Co-branding appears on the mesh tongue and footbed, further cementing Oberg's imprint as an important part of Adidas Originals' modern era.
Akin to Sporty & Rich's reissues of the Adistar Cushion, the pioneering Adizero running shoe includes all of its performance-informed components across the lower-half. AdiPRENE+ foam comes together with the Torsion System, AdiWEAR, and robust rubber coverage underneath the forefoot to still be able to log some miles. Each pair is certainly geared towards the fashionable, but what worked for the Ethiopian elite athlete so many years ago can still work for you today.
Enjoy official photos of the Adizero Adios 1 duo by Sporty & Rich below. Firm Adidas.com release details haven't been disclosed by either party involved, but that's expected to change as fall inches closer. Expect the collaborative styles to retail for $160 each.
