MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Some experts are saying events like the FIFA World Cup and America’s 250th Anniversary could bring economic growth for Louisiana in 2026.
According to the Louisiana Tourism Association the state had 43 million visitors in 2023, and more than $18 million in tourism spending.
President and CEO of New Orleans and Company Walt Leger, says with major impacts coming from tourism there is no better time for local leaders and communities to prepare. He says money travelers spend in Louisiana could lessen the burden of taxes on residents.
Leger says, “Those visitors, who are international, who are going to be here for an extended period of time, creates a perfect opportunity to think about how we can collaboratively market and promote our state and we’re excited to work with the Lieutenant governor on that. We’re excited to work with the CVBs around the state on that.”
He says local leaders creating tourism strategies for events like these could increase tourism and economic impact for 2026.
